Sophie joined the Young Lives team in 2018 as a Digital Communications Assistant, responsible for social media engagement, online content and e-communications. Sophie supports the Communications Manager in ensuring that the research findings and policy implications associated with the Young Lives study are communicated effectively to the relevant academics, practitioners and other stakeholders.
Sophie’s academic background is in Politics and Philosophy. Sophie holds an MA in Politics and Philosophy from The University of Edinburgh; she also gained experience of policy and parliamentary procedure whilst working as a Westminster lobbyist for four years. After campaigning, both for an agency and in-house, for four years, Sophie moved into journalism. She wrote news for the Independent and her work has appeared on the Guardian Professional Networks and Charity Times, as well as in the Independent Magazine. After a few years of portfolio-building, Sophie became Managing Editor of Spear’s Publishing, where she organised the production of Spear’s Magazine, the Spear’s 500 and the Spear’s 500 Travel Guide. Sophie now works as a freelance journalist and content writer, alongside her digital communications work.
